George’s Book

I haven’t posted in a while because I have been working on a project! Doing a set of watercolours to illustrate a short story about our dog George.

Each illustration was done on 11×14 strathmore paper using Arteza water color pens. It was a lot of fun, but honestly I was getting a little tired of the project in the end, I’m clearly not cut out to be a full time illustrator! ^_^

Hawaii Snorkeling Memories

I had been wanting to do a composition of the fish and turtles we saw snorkeling last fall,  but couldn’t decide on the medium.

I have really  been enjoying the bright watercolor marker set of clown fish, octopus and sea dragon  so I finally decided to do this in a similar style.

I should clarify that while we did see all these fish, not all at once, Also the coral is based off exhibits at the Oahu aquarium, sadly since we were snorkeling in pretty touristy areas we saw only a few live corals.

exploring lines

Block prints are one of my favorite styles and I have small collection of other artist works. However due to my hand arthritis I haven’t attempted one in years. Thanks to some new medication, I decided to give it a shot again for fun!

These mixed media of pen and watercolor were again keeping with the concept of using line. Not my usual style, but liking their playful nature.

Rainbow fish

I always feel like something terrible is going to happen to my fish when every I take the time to draw them, however this guys has been living in our kitchen for over a a year and was too cute not to try! Keeping it loose with pastels again Not perfect, but I do like how  the colors durned out overall.

Hawaii Gecko

This was my first time doing a larger soft pastel drawing. In some ways it was easier in that I’m used to doing oils on a larger scale and have little patience for details. It did use a lot pastels though! My spring green is about 1/2 the size it was when I started.

Pet fish portrait

After completing another module of fish medicine continuing education, decided to get back out the pastel pencils and do a portrait of my own betta ^_^ A good reminder that white things are never just white.

More soft pastels

Spring weather had me inspired to try spring wildflowers ^_^ I had issues with by blue really starting to crumble with the piece, maybe its starting to get dried out? but overall I like the colors

Koi in pastel

First time trying fish in pastel. I this was a bit of struggle, I ended up cropping several lily pads from the photo, and that I just got myself confused with the water. But I do like the orange and white koi!
