Spring update

Its been a minute since I posted any work, so a quick catch up. Working in pastels, watercolors, and breaking out the water mixable oil paints ^_^

We had an epic wild flow season thanks to a lot of winter rain!

The axolotl was done as Valentine for the vet clinic (ie. why the leaves make a heart)

Another portrait of our crested gecko waldo. Scales are hard ^_^

more Arches paper

I normal work on Strathmore paper, but recently had bought a pad of Arches. The black and white cat a did a while ago was on a piece of it, this is a second attempt at using it.  It is so different, you have no time before your paint soaks in. However it does take laying beautifully, and really holds onto the color.

A little catch up- been watercolouring ^_^

This is a pen and ink watercolour of our  pet crested gecko. I’m not going to lie, I was totally sick of drawing scales by the time I finished half the face.  He is a very cute lizard and ended up looking rather devious in this portrait.

These chickens were a birthday present for a friend. I like some of the feathers, mixed feelings about the blue, but after I added it there were no take backs since it was watercolour.

This final painting was a project for tech appreciation week at work this year. It was a loose interpretation of our clinic logo, and was printed onto tote bags for the team.

More cat practice

Had a lot of fun with the one.  First time using Arches watercolor paper. That paper soaks up water and pigment like nothing. I was having trouble keeping by brush wet enough! However  it does lead to capturing some beautiful brush strokes. Definitely will be trying again.

Hawaii

We were lucky enough to get to spend 10 days in Oahu at the start of the month.

Did my best to use every moment of down time for painting!

With all the flora and fauna there was no shortage of inspiration ^_^

Some recent works

I have pretty bad posting this last month, however I have been painting! Latest I have been doing a series of cats, in a combo of pen and watercolor.

These have all be on the smaller size, but a lot of fun working on different textures.

Also in pen and watercolor did a small painting of the clinic’s axolotl.  This is now at the clinic by her tank.

Finally this last one is in soft pastel, on of the echinopsis  blooms, its called a “barber pole” cactus due to the pink and white flower. I was trying not get to tight with the soft pastels. Some of if worked.

All caught up ^_^

Arizona Rainbow

Brought out the soft pastels this morning. Arizona Rainbow are red/purple cactus with very flamboyant pink flowers. It is a threatened species, especially after some major wildfires the last few years.

More fresh water inspiration

I knew that starting new job it was going to be a while until I had the energy to paint! I have wanting to paint my lemon bristle nose pleco for months. This painting is meant to be a pair with my other fresh water fish tank watercolor with the betta and cory fish.

Betta and buddies

This morning I decided to try to mimic the water color marker look I had going withy my sealife series, but show some of my fresh water fish <3 Some things worked, some didn’t. But it felt good to actually get a painting done!
